In "Broken Chain", The author describes a death in the family that broke the chain or the wholeness of their togetherness. The emotion of it described the grieved that they had been through, but in the end they knew that they are still linked together in some way, while in "Fish Cheeks" it describes the cultural appreciation of one's nationality wherein the Chinese girl is embarrassed in showing her true culture to her crush. There had been a series of mishaps during the dinner but years after that event, she appreciated it more that ever.
