    In Chapter 13, Hawthorne mentions for the second time the character of Roger Chillingworth, who is Hester's husband, who had been missing for two years and was supposed to be dead, his real name is Roger Prynne. Roger Chillingworth acts as a doctor to find out who Pearl's father is, Hester's daughter
