At the beginning of chapter 5 what dose Ralph realize about piggy? Why is this significant?

Ralph realizes that Piggy is of high intelligence, is an effective speaker, and possesses the adult-like ability to "think things through." Ralph's acknowledgment of Piggy as a person of worth, and his wisdom in choosing Piggy as a confidant, is indicative of the quality of his leadership.
