Read the passage from "Homesick" when Jean meets the four-year old Chinese boy.

He walked slowly up to the boat, stared at me and then nodded as if he'd already guessed what I was.

"Foreign devil," he announced gravely.

I shook my head. "No," I said in Chinese. "American friend."

Why does the author include this information?

to emphasize how different the values of each culture are

to develop the idea the Jean wants to befriend more native people

to show how the Chinese feel about foreigners in their country

to show that the young boy has no manners

    I believe it is A.

    Explanation:

It is A because it shows the difference between the two races/cultures. The boy believe he is a devil because he is from a different country and would look different than the American such as cloths.
