    In the underlined section marked number (16) in the passage, there is a mistake in the way the sentence has been written. In order to correct the sentence so that it makes sense and correlates to the rest of the passage t should be written as follows: "His subsequent career would indicate that the lesson was well learned." In this corrected version introduces the pronoun his to clarify who the subject of the sentence is, and it also reorganizes the location of the different clauses of the sentence, so that it is cohesive and understandable for the reader.
