Scout realizes that the man that rescued her and Jem is Boo Radley because after the attack, she sees someone carrying Jem back to her house and when she returns home she sees her father, aunt Alexandra, a doctor and an unknown man who she later discovers is Boo Radley who saves them from the attack.

Scout's description of Boo Radley was that his hands were white hands that had probably never felt the tan of sunlight. He was wearing a sand stained khaki short, looked frail, his face was as white as his hands, his cheeks were thin and his mouth wide.

The children Jem, Scout and Dill view Boo Radley as a totally horrible creature that commits unthinkable crimes and eats raw animals. The children based their view of Boo Radley because of gossip by other people and they really believed he dined on raw squirrels and cats.

In reality though, Boo Radley is nothing like what the children imagine him to be as he is later discovered to be a shy, tender-hearted and caring recluse.
