    Piggy has difficulty coming to terms with Simon's death and he claims it was an accident when he discusses it with Ralph in Chapter 10.

    Explanation:

    By Chapter 10 the vestiges of civilization are slipping away among the boys on the island and Ralph's group is losing power vis-a-vis Jack's group. Piggy, for example, is unable to really consider the consequences of the mob violence and bloodlust that broke out against Simon and in which they all participated. Ralph tells Piggy they are now all guilty of murder but Piggy only sees it as an accident or at least that is what he wants to believe happened as his own way of rationalizing it. The boys are losing their sense of morality.
