What is the role food plays in connecting us to our families, our memories, and/our cultural (ethnic class, religious, etc) identities?

Food can relate back to memories of special meals at things like holidays and events with family or friends, religious holidays like christmas, the kind of cooking your parents do could not only link memories to home-cooked meals but also, depending on family ethnicity, could relate you back to that.
