Why is the story of phineas gage considered so extraordinary? what does his story teach us about the brain?

    The story of phineas gage is extraordinary due to the fact that he was impaled with a metal rod and still recovered from the drastic injury. This tells us that the brain can still function with an injury/pieces missing from the prefrontal and temporal lobe.
