It was once prophesied to Polyphemus that he would lose his sight at the hands of Odysseus.

    It became a self-fufilling prophecy. If Polyphemus hadn't feared Odysseus, he may not have treated him and his men as he did, the result of which was their blinding him in order to make their escape.
