I can see four adjectives in this sentence, and those are main, rare, active, and tropical.

Adjectives are words which are used to further explain or describe nouns they are near to. So here, we know that this island is the main one; we know that the birds are rare; we know that volcanoes are active; and we know that the forests are tropical. All of those words describe their respective nouns in more detail which is why they are adjectives.
