What connotation does the poet use for the word in bold?

"Tis paid with sighs a plenty

And sold for endless rue.'

And I am two-and-twenty,

And oh, 'tis true, 'tis true."

The bolded word is sighs

    D, "sigh" implies regret which, consequently, is related to sadness/broken heart.
