Note that the Stories were written by Edgar Allen Poe. The Gothic elements in each case feature Madness, the relationship between cat and man.

In 'the Black cat', we notice a very unstable mental state of the characters; a Goltic element that adds to the suspense of the story.

In Berenice, it focuses on the effects of being in an unconscious state.
