Hassan is the "class clown" in our second period English class. We all look up to him because he never puts anyone down with his jokes and even makes the teacher laugh. Everyone wants him in their group for class projects because his group usually does the best. I've only been in his group once, and I had a great time. Although we all would do whatever he wants, he actually takes the time to ask what we each want so we all feel part of the decision. What leadership role and style best describes Hassan? A. instrumental role and authoritarian style B. instrumental role and democratic style C. expressive role and authoritarian style D. expressive role and democratic style

    The correct answer is B.

Hassan plays an instrumental role because he performs essential functions and takes initiative when leading, which would explain why his group always does the best (an expressive role, on the other hand, would mean that he provides emotional support for his group). His style is democratic, because he takes into account what other people in his group want to do (while an authoritarian style would signify a controlling leader who has little regard for others in his group).
