Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 - - a date which will live in infamy - - the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.

The passage above is how President Roosevelt opened his speech. Why would this date "live in infamy" as described in the rest of his speech?

    The correct answer here is D.

    Prior to attack on Pearl Harbor which occurred, as the quote states, on December 7th, 1941, the United States were officially a neutral party not involved in the War between the Allies and the Axis. The attack was unprovoked and resulted in the massive loss of life. That is why, because there was no imminent reason to attack the US, that that day will live in infamy.
