According to The Great Gatsby, what is the distinction between East and West Egg? How does one "bridge the gap" between the two?

    East Egg is for those with old family money and West Egg is for the newly rich. The two cities are separated physically by a bay. However, the social gap between the two cities can not be traversed. One is born into East Egg society, a place among its elite can not be purchased with new money.
