A soldier, he represents a violent threat to the Lady of Shalott's peaceful world.

    He represents the life and love that the Lady of Shalott has not had.

    The Lady is happy with her weaving, but dreams of something more. When Lancelot rides by she suddenly runs across the room, breaking her mirror and causing the curse to come upon her. She feels happy and content though, because Lancelot represents everything she was never able to have.
