The call of the wind is a novel by jack london. it focuses on the little buck, a pampered dog who lives with a wealthy family in southern California. during the gold rush, buck is captured, sold, and eventually shipped to Alaska. Along the way, buck is mistreated, but eventually he learns to survive as a member of a dog sled team. with each nee experience, buck becomes more acquainted with his ancestors instincts, Finally, after losing someone he cared about, buck decides to return to living in the wind.

    The answer seems to be B.

    He cannot defend himself from the circumstances that lead him from California to Alaska. Alaska is a barren landscape that forces him after many trials to go back to the original life a dog is meant to live.

    D is not the best answer because California and Alaska are symbols of two different lifestyles a dog would live. The could be any place that is warm and sunny to start with (like Arizona) and harsh and cold like the Yukon.

    C is the second best answer, but it is just a fact. B is a result of the hardship.

    A is true, but it is like saying I live in a house because I don't like living outside when it's 30 below. A says nothing about what resulted for being in one place and going somewhere else.
