    I think what Bruno's mother means when she says, "we don't have the luxury of thinking.' is that she knows that her country and family are being forced or controlled by the Nazis and Hitler, hence, all the decisions are being made for them and there is not much independence to be opinionated. I also have an understanding that she is not unhappy about leaving Berlin but rather she is unhappy about her Husband's job position and she thinks that he should have not taken the position.
