    The short story, The Sniper, was written by Liam O'Flaherty.

    In the story, the Republican who felt fulfilled by killing an enemy in battle decided to know who the enemy was. He discovered that the man he killed was his own brother.

    The author, through this final revelation, shows to readers that war can make a man turn against his brother. During war, the warrior by all means wants to protect his life and the interest of his group and by doing this can cause harm to (or even kill) his kinsmen. This is a proof that war is evil and brings perpetual regret and enmity.
