In Act II, Scene 9 of William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, the Prince of Arragon arrives at Belmont to choose the correct casket for Portia. He promises to (1) keep his choice a secret, (2) if he chose wrong, he'd never propose to another woman and (3) leave Belmont promptly.

He did NOT promise to give Portia a bag of gold ducats if he chose incorrectly.
