What made the roaring 20's an exciting decade? What caused this change?

Things such as the fact that prohibition was lifted, the war (wwi) was over, there was new technology like telephones, cities were bustling with the rich, and parties were being thrown every night. (I assume you are reading the great gatsby in class). Then there was the crash of '29, and the great depression, which I'm sure wasn't great.
