    This excerpt is taken from The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe.

    Explanation:

    Poe is considered by many critics as being in his element when he wrote this in 1839. His penchant for building structure echoing emotions of fear, guilt and shame, are very evident in the way Roderick and Madeline interacted. Like the Tell-Tale Heart, Roderick is eaten by guilt and fear at burying his sister alive. This brings upon the fall of Roderick Usher's home.
