Narrative nonfiction is often called creative nonfiction. The idea is to tell a nonfiction story using fiction techniques. That is, the story is true, but the author adds to the element of telling the true story characteristics you will often find in a fictional story. These include strong characters, plot, conflict, setting the scene, vivid descriptions, dialogue, and even metaphorical or figurative language. Whatever elements the author can employ to make the story stronger are useful as the story itself is just as important, or more important, than the facts.
