Mr. Patterson has a class of 16 students. He can spend $23 on each student to buy math supplies for the year. He first buys all of his students calculators, which costs a total of $96.16. After buying the calculators, how much does he have left to spend on each student?

    Since he's spent 6.01 per student already, subtract that from $23 to get how much he has left to spend on each student which is $16.99
