In the mystery story August Heat by W. F. Harvey, Mr. Atkinson, one of the main characters, inscribes James's name and date of his death in his sample headstone without knowing James, and then tries to protect him. To make this fact more believable, James's date of birth is also carved in the model headstone Mr. Atkinson carves without knowing who James Withencroft is.
