A compound sentence joins two or more sentences that have similar ideas of equal importance.

It is formed by adding two main independent clauses together using conjunctions (and/but/for/not/yet/so/or). Each independent clause must have a subject and a verb.

In this case, the sentences that take the compound form are: (bold=subject/bold + italic verb)

-All of the children were excited for the trip, AND the adults were prepared

-We all wanted to go to the pool, BUT we knew it was not a good idea.

-Due to the frequency of the lightening, the children were asked to leave the pool, AND the fun was spoiled.

The pool water was bright, shining, and blue. (it is not a compound form because it has only one subject and one verb).
