What is the function of a claim in a argument

When someone wants to present a stance and also needs to develop an argument about it, the claim is what he will be using to verify the validity of his position. He will make a claim to support or prove his agument and for it to be accepted as logical. Many other claims might be included in the argument, but then the main idea will be restated in the conclusion.
