What figurative language is this?

1. When the principal entered the class with a frightening scowl, the room was filled with a deafening silence

2. John was lucky to be alive. He walked away with only minor cuts and bruises when his convertible was completely crushed in the crash.

    1. Hyperbole because it's not literally a deafening silence.

    2. Hyperbole because the car is not completely crushed to where there is nothing left but it is crushed to where there is no fixing it at all.
