Pope's couplets do not fall into strict iambs, however, flowering instead with a rich rhythmic variation that keeps the highly regular meter from becoming heavy or tedious. The heroic couplet is made up of rhymed pairs of iambic pentameter lines (lines of ten syllables each, alternating stressed and unstressed syllables)

Answer: The lines have a strong rhythmic quality with a simple aabbccdd rhyme scheme (rhymed couplets). The lines use iambic pentameter, which means there are ten syllables in each line. Pope makes sure that his word choice maintains this meter without making it sound forced. Pope also uses word pairs that rhyme but are not spelled similarly (for example, due and view and praise and lays).
