    An iamb is a metrical foot which consists of two syllables, the first one of which is unstressed, followed by a stressed one. On the other hand, a trochee is also made up of two syllables, however, the first one is stressed, and the one following it is unstressed.

    In the word advise, the first syllable ad - is unstressed, and the one after is, - vise, is stressed, thus making this word an iambic one.
