Interpreting God's word. Every time the author mentions him or his, he is speaking of God. The first sentence also says "When I consider how my light is spent." This is referring to how the person is living their life before they die. The poem also states " God doth not need either man's work or his own gifts."Meaning that the only thing that is important is the work that you do for God, not yourself.
