When introducing Old Lady Chong, Amy Tan first appeals to the sense of smell, describing Old Lady Chong as smelling like a baby with a dirty diaper. Then, she appeals to the sense of touch, explaining how Old Lady Chong's fingers felt like dead fingers, or a spoiled peach.
