The Icelandic language is in trouble because tow main reasons: the dramatic increment of tourism in recent years and the voice recognition technologies in smartphones and other devices. In both cases English as the universal language, facilitates the communication with tourist and smart devices; therefore, making Icelandic less necessary in everyday situations. This is diminishing the use of Icelandic in favor of English.

I think the efforts of the government to preserve Icelandic are completely worth it. The Icelandic language is heritage of the humanity as whole and it will be a shame to lost it just because of globalization.
