    The way in which Gabriel García Marquez creates humour is sometimes ironical. In his story, he describes the umbrella as something useful for many things, for almost everything, but not for what is meant to be.

    He says the umbrella is one of the finest, most sensitive garments that exist, vulnerable to storms like no other.
