In the story "Eleven" by Sandra Cisneros, we see that Rachel is turning eleven. She is happy about it, and excited about celebrating. However, when she arrives to school, the teacher forces her to wear an ugly sweater that is not hers, thinking it belongs to her.

Even though Rachel knows the truth, she is unable to speak up. She feel overwhelmed by emotion and cries. Rachel most likely struggles to speak up because the teacher is an authority, and Rachel believes she might not believe her or care about what she has to say. Moreover, Rachel might be very embarrassed, or be too shy.

Maybe Rachel is nervous, scared or does not want to be yelled at.
