The relationship within all the stories that relate Merlin and Arthur are more like a father to a son, the father being Merlin and the son being Arthur. Merlin plays the role of the advisor and is all the time the cource of advice and proper counsel for Arthur. The relationship is very affective and postivie so from the options you are giving me we can say that merlin values the king's advice as much as the king values merlin's.
