The elements of good and evil and that of heaven and hell are utilized by the poet through Christian religion.

King Hrothgar, protected by God, became a mighty ruler over the land Herot. Hrothgar had fewer worries about himself and more about his people when Grendel, comes into the poem. Due to Hrothgar's great wisdom and goodness, being described as a famous hero. Herot's beauty reigned throughout the land as it was made of earthen walls covered by ivory and gold. Fire representing the symbol of evil could bring down the Herot. Hrothgar throne was never challenged by Grendel, despite his barbarous attacks.

"He never dared touch King Hrothgar's throne, protected by God, God whose love Grendel could never know."

Grendel forfeits his own life as he was unable to contend with God's love. In the Bible, the poet summarizes the chapter of Genesis. "The Almighty making the earth, shaping beautiful plains, marked off by oceans, then proudly setting the sun and moon to glow across the land and light it."
