What changes made in the text show a desire not to make an absolute break with English people.

    If you're referring to the Declaration of Independence, there is a change in the last paragraph that shows a desire not to make an absolute break with English people. There is a line taken out that said, "we utterly dissolve and break off." This was taken out and edited, because utterly dissolving and breaking off would be a complete severance from England.
