    In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare wrote primarily in blank verse.

    He used verse for the dialogues of high-status characters. In Romeo and Juliet, most of the characters are nobles, so they speak in verse.

    Shakespeare also used verse when he wrote about serious themes.
