compound: a sentence with more than one subject
complex: a sentence containing a subordinate clause or clauses.

Simple sentence has one clause.
Compound sentence has two or more clauses.
Complex sentence has one independent clause and one dependent clause.
Examples:
Compound
We like pasta, and we like pizza.
Complex
The girls did not go to the park because they went to the zoo.
