Below in the explanation is the comparison of the situation of the characters; Josef, Isabel and Mahmoud In the book "Refugee" by Alan Gratz.

    Explanation:

The three kids Joseph, Isabel and Mahmoud are trying to escape to safety. Isabel is a Cuban girl who lives with a dictator that will not let them leave, while Joseph is a Jewis boy that lived in Germany when the Nazis ruled in the 1930s and Mahmoud on the other hand is a Syrian boy whose town was destroyed by bombs and whose life is always at risk. The three kids all have something in common which is to return to safety.

Each of the three kids had something bad happen to the that made them to leave their country. In the case of Joseph, His dad was taken to the concentration camp in Germany for six months and they were told after the release of their dad to leave the country within fourteen days.

Isabel's dad tried to escape the country and became a wanted man so Isabel knew they had to leave the country for safety.

After the apartment of Mahmoud was bombed, they had to leave the country for safety. These are the different situations the three kids faced in the book.

Futhermore, each of the three kids lost someone close to them. for instance, Josef lost his dad, Isabel lost her best friend while Mahmoud lost his baby sister.
