The best strategy for an active listener to apply is to pay close attention to what the speaker is saying.

Active listening as the name suggests is the active participant while listening rather than being passive. It refers to the strategy of giving full attention to the speaker and not letting the speaker feel that he/she is speaking irrelevant. This strategy is applied effectively when it is responded through verbal and non-verbal communication. Non-verbal messages such as nodding while agreeing, by smiling, eye contact and replying by 'yes' or 'hmm' to encourage the speaker to speak at ease at honestly, by smiling and eye contact.
