    I would have to say in my opinion that it would be a underlying commentrary pre-revolutionary war/post revolutionary version of America.

    Set in a small Dutch village. its about a character driven rather than plot driven and the character of Rip is well developed. It is shared that Rip comes from a noble bloodline, but he does not have much character. Thats basically what their talking about in the book Well at least thats all I can remember because I hav'ne read that book in a long time.
