    The option which is not one of the things he cannot give up is the queen.

    He doesn't really need Gertrude anymore - all he ever wanted was the throne, the wealth, and the power that killing Hamlet's father allowed him to have. He never cared for the queen - marrying her was just a way for him to achieve his goals.
