How does the following quote support the theme of darkness in the text?

"Never shall I forget that night, the first night in the camp which has turned my life into one long night, seven times cursed and seven times sealed." (pg 34)

Night represents darkness because Elie goes into hiding and will not see daylight until the war is over.
