Authors often leave things unstated in a story, leaving the reader with questions about the outcome. What can you infer about what Gordimer leaves unstated at the end of her story? How does it relate to her statements about the family living "happily ever after"?

    We can infer that the little boys passed away. He was bruised, bloody, and the skin was really torn apart; for me he had to die. It is related to Gordimer statement about family "happily ever after" by showing that no one actually live happily ever after, since we will be always like that: going through one hardship after the other and so on.
