We learn that he is an incredible fighter and extremely respected within the whole kingdom. No one has anything bad to say about him, and they all (especially Duncan) praise him highly. The sergeant's line " For brave Macbeth--well he deserves that name--" sums up pretty much everyone's attitude towards him.
