In a house the size of a postage stamp lived a man as big as a barge. His mouth could drink the entire river You could say it was rather large For dinner he would eat a trillion beans And a silo full of grain, Washed it down with a tanker of milk As if he were a drain. Which BEST describes the effect of having one short stanza for the entire poem? A) It allows for a humorous, light tone. B) It allows for an unexpected ending statement. C) It does not have any effect at all on the poem. D) It allows for deep characterization and lots of detail.

Answer: B) It allows for an unexpected ending statement.

The fact that the entire poem is contained within one short stanza allows the poem to have an unexpected ending statement. This ending would not be possible in a longer poem, as the ending would not come as such a surprise. The other options, however, would be equally effective in a longer poem (humorous, light tone, characterization and lots of detail).
