    Answer: D

Explanation: B and C are easy to rule out. B is easily ruled out because in the passage it doesn't come off with the tone that the couple is putting things away more than once because they're old. 'But keep putting on their clothes' nudges the reader toward, despite being old, the couple is still living life as they usually would when they were young. Making C ruled out easily as well.

Which leaves only A and D. This is where deciding which is right and which is wrong gets tricky. A is only ruled out because the question is 'Which of the following statements can be understood from the characterization in the final two lines of the passage?'

    1. Two who are mostly good.

    2. Two who have lived their day,

    3. But keep on putting on their clothes

    4. And putting things away.

The question is asking for the last two lines. So the focus is on 3 and 4, not 1 and 2. 2 gives you the knowledge that the couple is old, but still isn't the focus of the passage. Line 3 shows that the couple is still doing things, and line 4 shows that they are finishing. So they're still living their life as anybody normally would, despite being old.
